Jair Bolsonaro’s administration is celebrating Elon Musk’s trip. After Trump’s failed 2020 re-election bid, Brazil’s right-wing President Jairbolsonaro has been isolated from the international stage. Bolsonaro’s closeness to Russian President Vladimir Putin has been criticized. He has also renewed his attack on Brazil’s electronic voting system in the lead up to October elections, where he will be facing off against his favourite LuizInacio Lula da Silva.
Bolsonaro is currently trailing Lula, a leftist ex-president, in polls. He has long sought to undermine 1996’s voting system and declared in 2021 that he would not recognize the results of the election unless it was reorganized.
“We can’t have an electoral system that is prone to suspicion.” he said at a gathering in Rio de Janeiro on May 19.
Brazilian voters cast their ballots using electronic voting terminals. Bolsonaro on the other side has long advocated for a printed record of every vote cast. The Superior Electoral Court says that the system is fair, free from irregularities, and that there are no evidence of fraud. Electronic voting is possible in the country of 213 millions people.
Bolsonaro declared in May that his party would hire a private company to audit the election. Bolsonaro also predicted that Brazil would experience “turbulent” elections this week.
“Imagine that one side has suspicions that the election was not fair on the night of the vote. Jair Bolsonaro stated on May 19 that they didn’t want this.
The Supreme Court opened an investigation into Jair Bolsonaro’s frequent questions about the system.
